What is Gocad?

Gocad (Geological Object Computer Aided Design) is the name of a project started in 1989 by Professor Jean-Laurent Mallet at Nancy Université.
So what is Gocad exactly? Actually three entities:
The Gocad Research Group is a team of researchers at the frontier of geology, geostatistics, computer science, reservoir engineering and geophysics, hosted by the Centre de Recherches Petrographiques et Geochimiques (CRPG) and the School of Geology at Nancy Université. This research team is striving to define new approaches to build, and update 3D subsurface models accounting for available data and knowledge. Learn more....
The Gocad Research Group has strong connections with ALICE at INRIA, the GSRC group at Marseille Universite and SCRF at Stanford.
We support the Mathematical Geosciences journal (formerly known as Mathematical Geology), edited by the International Association for Mathematical Geology.
- The Gocad Consortium, managed by ASGA (Association Scientifique pour la Geologie et ses Applications), is an international consortium open to companies, universities and research institutes whose aim is primarily to support the Gocad Research Group in advancing the state of the art of 3D subsurface modeling. The deliverables for the consortium members mostly consist of research papers and software. Learn more...
- The Gocad software was developed by the Gocad Research Group during the 90's, as an integration of all research led since the inception of the project. This now commercial software and application programming interface is fully owned by and can be obtained from Paradigm Geophysical. Most new technology created in the Gocad Research Group is made available through plugins of the Gocad software. Learn More...
