I am currently working on unstrucured mesh generation for flow simulation needs. Unstructured grids are Delaunay triangulations, or their dual Voronoi Tesselations. The grid is optimised through a fast computation of Centroidal Voronoi Tesselation (CVT) that guarantee well-shaped Voronoi cells. Based on a structural model with wells, geometrical and geological constraints are honored. A metric corresponding to flow informations, such as mean velocities or time of flight, given by a steady-state flow simulation on a fine cartesian grid, allow to define a cell-size factor at each location of the grid, in order to reduce numerical errors of the flow simulation. Other metrics are looked in, such as local feature size (lfs) to fit best geometrical constraints, and anisotropic tensor to account for vertical anisotropy.
